Becoming a member

Membership of Kilkenny County Council library service is free for everyone and all ages. You can join at any Kilkenny Library branch or online below. You will need to present proof of your name and current address to join in branch.

You can join the library online if you are aged 16+ by reading and accepting the membership conditions below and then filling out a short application form on the next page.

When you join online you will get a temporary library number and you can use that to access most online services straight away. However to activate your full membership, you must visit a library in person within one month with photo ID and proof of address.


You will need to visit a Kilkenny library branch with photo ID and proof of address to finalise your membership in order to be able to reserve or borrow physical items e.g. books, DVD’s etc.

Children and young people under the age of eighteen years must get the permission of a parent or guardian to join the library.

Parents/guardians are responsible for their children in the library, their children’s selections, both physical and digital and use of library materials and services, including access to the Internet.

If you are under eighteen years, a parent/guardian should accept the Terms and conditions of library membership on your behalf.

Membership of Kilkenny County Council Library Service allows access to the services and stock of any public library in the Republic of Ireland.
